Tree Growing Through Stone Floor in Gorzow Abbey

by Leo Evans

Copper-toned light from the late afternoon sun washes over the nave of an abandoned abbey in Gorzów Wielkopolski. A mature tree forces its way upward through a jagged break in the stone floor, roots gripping the ancient masonry. Warm lamplight settles in the deep corners, illuminating the rough texture of the bark against the smooth, weathered tiles. Late spring leaves in soft greens cluster at the unseen canopy above, casting dappled shadows across the floor. The trunk rises vertically, splitting the space with organic strength. Dust motes hang in the air, and the splintered edge of the wood rests directly on the broken stone.
