Monsoon Ruin Gate Over Green Valley in through a courtyard reclaimed by grasses near Jakarta

Monsoon Ruin Gate Over Green Valley

by Nolan Stephenson

Sunlight flattens the crumbling stone archway of an old fort gate, revealing jagged edges where mortar has surrendered to the elements. Below, a valley of monsoon-green vegetation stretches into the distance, its density marking the turn of the seasons. Tall grasses reclaim the courtyard in the foreground, swaying slightly where the wind moves through empty rooms. The bright noon glare washes the weathered brick in pale tones, casting short, sharp shadows inside the arch. A low stone wall borders the courtyard, separating the reclaimed path from the steep drop. Through the natural frame of the broken gate, the distant tree line appears soft against the harsh sky. A crack runs vertically through the central keystone, filled with a thin line of dried moss.
