Sunflower Starfish Hunting Fukuoka Ocean Floor in near Fukuoka

Sunflower Starfish Hunting Fukuoka Ocean Floor

by Suzanne Ryan

Late afternoon light filters down through the water column, illuminating a vast sunflower starfish moving across the sandy seabed near Fukuoka. The starfish, with its ten to twenty sprawling arms, pushes forward in a slow, deliberate hunt. Fine plankton haze softens the background, turning distant rocks into pale, indistinct shapes. Reflected light from the surface above creates shifting patterns of brightness and shadow across the starfish's textured, orange-brown skin. The ocean floor stretches out in muted tones of beige and gray, scattered with small pebbles and organic debris. Each tube foot grips the sand with subtle friction. The trailing arm edges blur slightly against the grainy sediment, marking the creature's precise path through the submerged mystery.
