Moon Jellyfish Bloom Winter Sunlight Fukuoka

Translucent bell-shaped bodies drift in a dense cluster beneath the surface of the sea near Fukuoka. Flat noon sunlight penetrates the blue water, creating distinct shafts that illuminate the delicate, semi-transparent membranes of the jellyfish. The winter water holds a high concentration of suspended particles that glitter like fine dust within the light beams. Viewed from a low angle, the pale pink and white organisms float above darker seabed shadows. Their rhythmic pulsing motion is frozen in the stillness of the frame. One bell edge catches a sharp highlight against the deep blue background.
