Subterranean River Emerges From Cave Mouth Near Belbis

by Karla Bowman

Bright midmorning light floods a dry landscape near Belbis, casting hard coastal glare across cracked earth and pale stone. A subterranean river forces its way out of a dark cave mouth, the water a deep, cool blue that contrasts sharply with the surrounding dust. Thin layers of light fog hover just above the water's surface, softening the harsh shadows while the dry season leaves the banks bare and cracked. The composition strips away all distraction, leaving only the geometric cut of the cave entrance and the flowing stream. The water ripples gently over smooth rocks before vanishing into the arid ground, where a single shadow falls across the wet sand.
