Underground River Emerging From Cave Mouth Brasilia Rainy Season

by Hana Abbott

Bright afternoon light floods the rocky entrance where a subterranean stream bursts forth into the open. Heavy rain from the rainy season creates a fine mist that hangs low over the water's surface. The river flows from a dark, shadowed cave mouth, its dark waters contrasting sharply with the wet, moss-covered limestone walls. Raindrops strike the pool below, generating concentric ripples that distort the reflection of the gray sky. The surface acts as a perfect mirror, duplicating the jagged rock arch and the falling drizzle in a symmetrical composition. Wet stone glistens under the overcast sun, and the water's edge blends seamlessly with the muddy ground. One ripple breaks the mirrored image near the foreground.
