Early Morning River Emerging from Cave Sri Lanka

by James Elliott

Low sun strikes a band of orange haze on the horizon, illuminating the wet season fog that rests on the limestone landscape in Sri Lanka. A dark cave mouth opens beside a shallow pool where an underground river flows out. The water moves over smooth, dark stones, creating ripples that spread across the surface. Moss grows on the damp rock faces near the waterline, their green muted by the deep shade inside the cave. The emerging stream reflects the pale sky above, while the horizon glows with thin light. A ripple spreads outward from where the current hits a submerged rock.
