Barbados Limestone Cave River Floodplain in across a floodplain after rain in Barbados

Barbados Limestone Cave River Floodplain

by Yvonne Serrano

Bright midmorning sun floods a wet Barbados floodplain where a subterranean river bursts from a limestone cave mouth. The water flows rapidly over smooth, grey stone, churning into white foam before spreading across the saturated earth. Low-hanging dust particles hang suspended in the tropical light, creating a hazy veil above the green vegetation. The limestone walls are textured with erosion patterns and wet streaks. Rain has left the ground glistening, reflecting the sky in shallow pools. The river occupies the lower third of the view, leading toward the dark cave opening on the right. One ripple breaks the surface tension near the foreground.
