Silvery Selenite Cave Dead Sea Shore Night in along a wave-cut shoreline in the Dead Sea

Silvery Selenite Cave Dead Sea Shore Night

by Kyle Head

Silvery winter light falls through heavy overcast skies to illuminate a surreal crystal cave along the wave-cut shoreline of the Dead Sea. Giant selenite formations rise from the wet, mineral-encrusted ground, their surfaces appearing entirely transparent like glass while retaining a soft, natural color tint. The dry season leaves the surrounding terrain bare and textured with salt deposits. Minimalist composition emphasizes the verticality of the translucent pillars against the flat, dark water. Sharp edges define the impossible transparency of the stone, against the rough, crystalline crust of the earth. One reflection of the overcast sky rests on the wet sand at the base of the nearest formation.
