Striped Badlands Canyon Sinai Sunset Ridge in from a ridge above layered foothills in Sinai

Striped Badlands Canyon Sinai Sunset Ridge

by Nico Franks

Rich amber light floods a deep canyon in the Sinai, illuminating layers of striped earth that curve through the valley floor. From a high ridge, the view looks down on undulating foothills where sedimentary bands of ochre, rust, and pale cream stack like ancient parchment. Dramatic clouds gather overhead, their dark undersides against the glowing horizon where the sun dips low. The terrain rises in sharp ridges and soft slopes, casting long, cool shadows that carve depth into the geologic folds. A thin line of dry scrub rests on the steeper inclines, while the smooth, eroded surfaces of the canyon walls reflect the warm, fading glow of the day. at the edge is a jagged rock outcrop catching the last direct beam of sunlight on the canyon floor.
