Pink Grey Badlands Canyon Silhouette Floodplain in across a floodplain after rain near Jeddah

Pink Grey Badlands Canyon Silhouette Floodplain

by Quinn Brewer

Erosion carves deep gullies into a rugged canyon face painted in streaks of dusty pink and cool grey. The rock formations rise starkly from a wide, wet floodplain where recent rain left dark, reflective patches on the sandy ground. Heat haze shimmers above the flat terrain, distorting the horizon line near the distant mountains. The sun sits high in a clear sky, backlighting the eroded ridges until they appear as sharp, dark silhouettes against the bright atmosphere. Fine sediment dusts the canyon slopes, against the smooth, damp earth below. A jagged rock fragment lies in the immediate foreground, at the base of the view in the dry, cool season landscape.
