Flash Flood Carves Sinai Canyon in Amber Light
by Wanda Miller
Rich amber sunset light washes over a narrow canyon where a flash flood cuts through the wave-cut shoreline of Sinai. Turbulent water rushes with visible force, carving deep channels into the reddish-brown rock layers. Wind whips across the surface, creating ripples and whitecaps on the fast-moving current. The cool season air is suggested by the sharp, clear definition of the water's spray against the warm stone. Strata of ancient sediment rise steeply on either side, showing textures of erosion and time. The water reflects the copper-toned sky, creating a dynamic contrast between the fluid motion and the solid, unmoving cliffs. At the edge of the frame, a single wave crashes against a protruding rock, sending a spray of droplets into the air.
