Egypt River Canyon Sediment Layers Sunset in across a floodplain after rain in Egypt

Egypt River Canyon Sediment Layers Sunset

by Randi Richard

Sandy ochre and pale beige strata slice through the canyon walls, revealing millions of years of dry season deposition. From a high vantage point, the floodplain below stretches flat and wet, reflecting the fading gold of the setting sun. The horizon light wraps around the jagged ridges, casting long, soft shadows that define the depth of the erosion. Dust hangs low over the waterlogged ground, settling into the crevices of the ancient rock face. A sharp contrast exists between the smooth, dark wet earth of the floodplain and the rough, textured edges of the weathered stone cliffs. at the edge shows a thin ribbon of water cutting through the sediment, mirroring the clear sky above.
