Stone Wooden Furniture on Forest Trail at Predawn
by Lori Arroyo
Predawn darkness blankets a Zimbabwean ridgeline where low-hanging clouds obscure the horizon. A narrow trail winds through dense forest under a sky of silvery winter light. Glowing fireflies trace the path, casting a soft, erratic luminescence against the undergrowth. Along the edge of the trail, a wooden bench sits partially transformed into stone. The transition is sharp; the lower legs are solid granite with rough textures, while the seat retains the visible grain of timber, frozen in rock. The fireflies hover near the stone-wood hybrid, their light reflecting off the mineral surface. A tree branch frames the view, creating a natural border around the stillness. The ground is covered in frost-hushed leaves, untouched by movement. The grain of the wood on the bench face aligns perfectly with the striations of the stone base, blurring the line between organic growth and geological formation.
