Stone Trees Reflecting Golden Light in Guinea

by Alexandria Cook

Orange low-angle light washes the petrified forest in Guinea, illuminating rough gray trunks that rise from wet, dark earth. Puddles scattered between the fossilized giants mirror the clearing sky and the warm glow above, forming a sharp vertical symmetry. Raindrops rest on the textured bark, glistening against the stone surfaces. Massive roots grip the mud, their forms stark and ancient against the vibrant, wet horizon. Water ripples slightly across the surface, distorting the reflection of the tallest trunk before settling into stillness. The heavy, saturated ground absorbs the light, while mist hovers low over the damp soil near the base of the trees. A droplet slides down the side of a stone pillar, catching the final rays of the sun.
