Midnight Campfire Shadows Between Standing Stones in from a moonlit breakwater near Puno

Midnight Campfire Shadows Between Standing Stones

by Tony Emerson

A bright orange fire burns at the base of weathered standing stones, casting deep, elongated shadows that stretch across the dry, cracked earth. The stones, rough and gray, rise vertically against a pitch-black sky scattered with sharp, unmoving stars. Moonlight reflects off the wet surface of the nearby lake, creating a perfect mirror image of the flames and the stone silhouettes. The ground around the fire is darkened by soot, against the pale, dusty soil further away. The stillness of the water amplifies the height of the firelight, making the orange glow appear to double in the dark expanse. One stone near the foreground catches a faint reflection of the embers, glowing softly in the water's edge.
