Texas Dam Powerhouse Below Penstocks After Rain in above a spillway chute with spray rising in Texas

Texas Dam Powerhouse Below Penstocks After Rain

by Linda Foreman

Thick steel penstock lines stack vertically against a pale gray sky, feeding into the concrete powerhouse facade below. Soft, diffused light from the post-rain afternoon washes the wet surfaces in muted tones. Mist from the spillway chute rises below, blurring the base of the structure where large transformers sit in rows. The air vibrates visibly around the high-voltage cables, distorting the background slightly. Rough concrete textures show water streaks running down vertical columns. Heavy cables hang in deep curves between support towers, casting sharp shadows on the damp ground. One puddle near the foreground reflects the dark underside of the nearest pipe, anchoring the massive scale of the infrastructure to the earth.
