Cooling Tower Steam Against Monsoon Sky in beside exposed structural steel in Shikoku

Cooling Tower Steam Against Monsoon Sky

by Kaitlyn Barber

A massive concrete cooling tower rises beside a skeleton of exposed structural steel in Shikoku. Thick white steam billows upward, merging with low-hanging monsoon clouds that press down on the horizon. The sun drops toward the horizon, casting a dull, flat gray light across the wet surfaces. Rain-slicked metal beams reflect the dimming sky, while the tower's curved concrete shell shows patches of dark moisture. Heavy clouds obscure the top of the structure, blending the industrial plume with the overcast sky. The steam thickens near the base, swirling around the steel supports before vanishing into the gloom. A jagged beam of steel catches the last faint glow of daylight.
