Abandoned Tunnel with Dripping Water and Ivy

by Theresa Price

Deep shadow fills the concrete mouth of a ruined tunnel beside ivy-draped masonry in Santiago de Veraguas. Late autumn light grazes the rough stone edges, casting a sharp rim glow against the dark interior. Water droplets fall from the damp ceiling, catching the faint light as they descend into the gloom. The road surface is cracked and scattered with fallen leaves, leading toward the distant opening where dramatic clouds hover above the treeline. Moss rests on the wet arch, softening the hard angles of the decay. One droplet hangs suspended on a jagged piece of rebar before falling.
