Twilight Ruins of Canary Hamlet Stone Well in in the Canary Islands

Twilight Ruins of Canary Hamlet Stone Well

by Reese McDowell

Faded ochre and grey stone walls rise from overgrown scrub in the early autumn air of a forsaken Canary Islands hamlet. A weathered stone well anchors the center, its rim worn smooth by time. Reflected light from the distant sea casts a cool, silver glow across the crumbling masonry and dry vegetation. Empty window frames stand like dark eyes against the dimming sky, while wind stirs the tall grasses swaying through the hollowed rooms. Moss rests on the damp base of the well stones. The final shadow stretches long and sharp across the cracked flagstones near the well's edge.
