Twilight Ruins Andalusia Nature Reclaiming Concrete

by Suzanne Williams

Reflected water light washes over the interior of a roofless nave in Andalusia, illuminating thick roots that split the crumbling concrete walls. Drifting dust particles hang in the twilight beams, catching the soft glow bouncing off the wet floor. The stone masonry shows deep erosion, with vines cascading from the broken arches down to the damp ground. Shadows stretch long across the floor, defining the scale of the remaining pillars against the darkening sky. A jagged crack in the foundation reveals a tangle of pale roots gripping the earth beneath the shattered masonry.
