Silhouetted Jellyfish Midnight Cape Town Water in near Observatory, Cape Town

Silhouetted Jellyfish Midnight Cape Town Water

by Jerome Joseph

Deep indigo shadows swallow the water near the Observatory in Cape Town, leaving only a faint rim light to define the edges of a drifting jellyfish. The creature hangs weightless, its bell a dark oval against the slightly lighter water above. Long, translucent tentacles trail downward, fading into the gloom where they vanish completely. Surface ripples move slowly, distorting the faint light into thin, wavering lines that dance across the water's surface. The water remains exceptionally clear, revealing no sediment or debris, only the silent, slow movement of the animal. A thin, pale line of light traces the curve of the bell, separating the dark form from the surrounding void.
