Fireflies Over Ancient Aqueduct at Dusk

by Doris Vincent

Thick mist hangs low over a weathered stone aqueduct, its arches fading into the twilight. Tiny points of amber light drift through the damp air, weaving between the crumbling masonry. Distant town glow paints the horizon in soft orange, against the cool blue of the wet season night. Massive transmission towers loom in the background, their steel legs anchored in the dark earth. Converging lines of the aqueduct draw toward a vanishing point lost in the fog. Rough stone textures glisten with moisture under the fading light, while the floating bioluminescence creates a scattered, rhythmic pattern against the gray ruins. One firefly rests on a moss-covered ledge at the very edge of the frame.
