Glowing Flyover Ramp Over Misty Dam Spillway
by Sue Sellers
Steel ribs of a spiraling flyover ramp curve past rows of lit office windows along a Pennsylvania dam spillway. Early winter mist rests on the wet concrete, diffusing the last blue light of evening into a soft, gray haze. Rain-slicked surfaces reflect the warm yellow glow from the windows, creating sharp, elongated streaks across the dark asphalt. The impossible element is a single, rectangular segment of the ramp that emits its own pale blue light from within, casting a crisp, artificial glow onto the surrounding mist and water below. This internal illumination has no visible source, yet it cuts through the thick fog with engineered precision. The water at the base mirrors the ramp's structure and the glowing segment, doubling the impossible light in the stillness. A thin wire fence runs along the edge, its metal bars catching the faint reflection of the glowing segment.
