Crane Above Foggy Spillway in Central African Republic

by Louise Dyer

Soft overcast light illuminates a massive steel gantry crane suspended over churning white water. The wet concrete walls of the spillway rise steeply, slick with rain from the wet season drizzle. A horizontal knife edge slices through the lower third of the view, marking where thick fog abruptly stops against the clear air above. The water roars in violent turbulence below the steel structure, while the upper sky remains a uniform pale gray. Rust streaks the crane's metal beams, against the pristine white of the frothing currents. The sharp boundary between the dense fog and the open air creates a surreal wall that separates the churning water from the solid machinery above.
