Amber Icicles Frame Bridge Tunnel Portal Water in under a cable-stayed bridge span near Jing'an, Shanghai

Amber Icicles Frame Bridge Tunnel Portal Water

by Elizabeth Cain

Honeyed evening light floods the underside of a massive cable-stayed bridge span near Jing'an, Shanghai, illuminating a tunnel portal framed by thick, translucent meltwater icicles. Early summer mist hangs low, softening the distant steel cables while the foreground remains sharp. The floor beneath the portal has transformed into mirror-still open water, creating a perfect, inverted reflection of the amber sky and the jagged ice formations above. The water surface holds the scene with engineered clarity, duplicating the steel girders and the dripping ice in a seamless, liquid double. Every texture of the wet stone and frozen water remains distinct against the glowing backdrop. The reflection shows the exact angle of the sunset beams striking the ice tips. One icicle drips into the glassy pool, sending a minute, perfect ripple outward.
