Jade Buddha Statue in Candlelit Korhogo Nave
by Pauline Lin
A polished jade Buddha statue sits centered in a deep temple alcove, framed by rough-hewn mud-brick walls characteristic of Korhogo architecture. Late afternoon sun falls through colored glass panes, painting the sacred figure in shifting bands of amber, crimson, and teal. Beside the statue, small clay offering bowls hold candles that cast flickering light across the stone surface. To the left, a jagged crack in the ancient wall defies gravity as a translucent waterfall pours from it, the water flowing downward in a smooth, solid ribbon before vanishing into the floor. The cool season air leaves the air still, allowing the water's surface to remain perfectly glassy. Shadows stretch long along the textured brickwork, while the water's edge reflects the warm candle glow against the cool jade green.
