Rose-Red Treasury Facade in Dappled Light in along a colonnaded facade in Jordan

Rose-Red Treasury Facade in Dappled Light

by Tracy Calderon

Sunlight fractures through hanging autumn leaves, casting shifting patches of bright gold and deep shadow across the rose-red sandstone of the Treasury facade. The carved columns and pediment emerge from the dappled pattern, their surfaces damp and darkened by recent rain. Humid air hangs heavy over the colonnaded walkway, softening the sharp edges of the stone carvings. The warm red hue of the rock contrasts with the cool, wet gray of the shaded crevices. Leading lines formed by the colonnade guide the gaze toward the central urn, where one drop of water rests on the carved edge of the stone, glistening against the rough texture of the weathered surface.
