Buddhist Cave Temple Prayer Wheel Corridor

by Veronica Harrington

Warm stained light falls through colored glass panels, casting patches of crimson and amber across a corridor lined with hundreds of seated Buddha figures carved directly into the rock. The stone surfaces show deep weathering and smooth curves where fingers rest on knees, creating a rhythm of repetition along the wall. A row of wooden prayer wheels runs parallel to the figures, their handles catching the low late-afternoon sun. Shadows pool in the recesses of the carvings, deepening the sense of depth and stillness. The floor reflects a faint glow from the upper windows, highlighting the texture of the worn stone steps. One beam of blue light cuts across the dusty air, illuminating the edge of a carved robe.
