Ivy Overgrown Castle Ruins in Indiana Courtyard

by Fernando Keller

Thick green ivy and patches of moss climb the crumbling stone walls of a castle ruin standing in an Indiana courtyard reclaimed by tall grasses. Bright midmorning light falls through soft overcast clouds, casting even, diffused illumination across the scene without harsh shadows. The grasses, lush and swaying slightly from recent monsoon rains, reach up toward the weathered masonry. Stone blocks show signs of age with moss growing in the crevices. The structure stands on the right third of the frame, its silhouette broken by the encroaching vegetation. The sky above is a pale, clear blue peeking through the cloud cover. One fallen stone lies in the wet grass near the base of the wall, its surface slick with rainwater reflecting the gray sky.
