Irrigation Runoff Pooling in Faisalabad Melon Vines

Hard midmorning sunlight floods a terraced agricultural slope in Faisalabad, where green melon vines sprawl across the earth. Turbid water gathers in a shallow depression at the lower end of the block, reflecting the bright sky in a distorted, rippling sheet. The runoff cuts a muddy channel through the dry soil, separating rows of broad leaves and trailing stems. Terraced rice paddies rise in the background, their surfaces shimmering under the intense glare. Dust hangs motionless in the air, settling on the wet mud and the dry, cracking earth of the ridge. A small patch of green vine leaf rests against the edge of the muddy pool, its veins highlighted by the direct overhead light. The water line marks the boundary between the saturated soil and the arid field edge.
