Cloud Trails Over Mississippi Breakwater Moonlight in from a moonlit breakwater in Mississippi

Cloud Trails Over Mississippi Breakwater Moonlight

by Elizabeth Yoder

Rain slicks the concrete breakwater where a rhythmic beam from a distant lighthouse cuts through the predawn darkness. Streaks of white and gray clouds stretch horizontally across the deep indigo sky, elongated by the long exposure. The wet surface of the pier reflects the sweeping light in sharp, moving bands. Low angle framing emphasizes the towering expanse of the sky against the solid, dark geometry of the sea wall. Early spring moisture hangs heavy in the air, visible as a fine mist clinging to the railing. One puddle on the ground mirrors the brightest part of the lighthouse beam.
