Coastal Cliff Shadows After Rain at First Light in in the Loire Valley

Coastal Cliff Shadows After Rain at First Light

by Jeanne Yoder

Soft gray morning light spills across a rugged coastal cliffline where steady rain has recently passed. Long, dark shadows from the retreating wave fronts stretch horizontally across the wet rock faces, creating a rhythmic pattern against the pale stone. The air hangs heavy with moisture, visible as a fine mist clinging to the cliff edges. Late spring greenery rests on the upper ledges, vibrant and saturated by the rain. No roads or paths break the natural expanse, leaving the landscape entirely untouched by human infrastructure. The wet surfaces reflect the pale sky, while the deep shadows emphasize the texture of the eroded rock. One droplet of water slides down a vertical fissure near the foreground, marking the final retreat of the storm.
