Guilin Reservoir Dam Wall Bird's Eye View in beside a hydroelectric intake in Guilin

Guilin Reservoir Dam Wall Bird's Eye View

by Lana Nielsen

Flat, overcast light washes the massive concrete face of a hydroelectric dam wall in Guilin. From a high angle, the gray surface stretches downward with subtle texture variations from weathering. Low-hanging clouds obscure the horizon, merging with the pale sky above the intake structure. Sparse, leafless vegetation rests on the rocky banks beside the concrete, hinting at early winter. The intake gates appear as dark, rectangular openings set deep into the wall, framed by smooth, utilitarian lines. Ripples on the water surface below reflect the dull white sky, creating a soft, metallic sheen against the rigid geometry of the dam. A faint shadow falls along the base where the wall meets the stone embankment.
