Spillway Bridge Over Black Water After Rain in under a viaduct of steel and concrete in 10th of Ramadan

Spillway Bridge Over Black Water After Rain

by Joann French

Soft overcast light floods the early afternoon, flattening shadows across a concrete spillway bridge that spans dark, still water. The steel viaduct overhead creates a geometric cage of gray beams and rivets, their surfaces stained with streaks of rust and oil. Every texture speaks of use: pitted concrete, peeling paint, and the rough grain of weathered cables hanging from the structure. The water below reflects the heavy sky, appearing almost black and motionless. Leading lines formed by the bridge railing guide the gaze toward the distant transformer banks, where faint heat haze vibrates in the cold air. A final streak of orange rust runs vertically down a steel support beam, marking the boundary between the industrial gray and the deep water.
