Aerial Surreal Landfill Waterfall from Wall
by Neil Farrell
Soft overcast light blankets a vast expanse of geometric landfill cells arranged in precise grids beneath an early winter sky. Low-hanging clouds drift just above the earth, merging with the muted tones of the compacted waste. In the center, a concrete retaining wall rises from the ground, and from a jagged crack in its surface, a continuous waterfall pours downward. The water cascades into the cell below, defying any plumbing logic while maintaining a solid, liquid presence. Surrounding the site, faint outlines of greenhouse structures stretch across the landscape, their frames visible through the haze. The water reflects the gray sky as it hits the dark soil, creating a sharp contrast against the orderly rows of the landfill. One stream of water splits around a raised ridge, pooling in a depression before vanishing into the earth.
