Glowworms in New Zealand Cave Night Fog in beneath a moon-washed horizon in New Zealand

Glowworms in New Zealand Cave Night Fog

by Fatima Carroll

Pale blue bioluminescence dots the rough limestone ceiling of a cavern, mimicking a starfield against the dark rock. Below, a thick layer of ground fog pools in the shadows, obscuring the floor and rising only to the mid-level of the cave walls. Through a distant opening, the horizon glows with the soft amber and white hues of city lights beginning to wake. The cave interior sits in deep silhouette, framing the glowing specks as they hang from the stalactites. A heavy mist drifts across the foreground, softening the transition between the dark stone and the faint light beyond the entrance. The glowworms cluster densely near the center, creating a natural constellation above the fog.
