Giant Selenite Crystals in Gypsum Cave Twilight in from a ridge above layered foothills near Dhaka

Giant Selenite Crystals in Gypsum Cave Twilight

by Maxwell Garza

Cool blue twilight washes the interior of a deep gypsum cave where massive, translucent selenite crystals rise from the rocky floor. Their sharp, geometric edges catch the faint ambient light filtering from the cave mouth, creating soft, pale halos against the dark stone walls. The crystals vary in height, some reaching several meters tall with smooth, glassy surfaces that reflect the dimming sky. Outside the opening, layers of foothills recede into the distance under a heavy, overcast midsummer sky. The horizon blends into the deep blue gloom, while the cave floor remains textured with loose sediment and scattered smaller mineral fragments. The largest crystal stands at the center, its base anchored firmly in the earth.
