Flowers Bursting from Telescope Dome Concrete at Night in at a remote field station in Carúpano

Flowers Bursting from Telescope Dome Concrete at Night

by Clyde Ibarra

Deep indigo darkness swallows the remote field station in Carúpano, leaving only the cool blue glow of the astronomical monitor to illuminate the scene. An observer stands rigidly before the telescope dome, their posture disciplined against the vast night. From hairline fractures in the heavy concrete floor and the metal housing of the instrument, clusters of vibrant tropical flowers erupt in impossible bursts of pink and white. These delicate blooms push through the rigid industrial surfaces, their petals glowing softly against the harsh readout lights. Reflections of green indicator LEDs dance across the wet petals and the polished metal casing. One crimson stamen touches the edge of a digital display, bridging the impossible biology with the cold machinery.
