Derelict Observatory Under Night Sky in at a remote field station near Tarsus

Derelict Observatory Under Night Sky

by Josephine Moran

Deep night shadows swallow the cracked concrete steps choked with dry, brittle weeds. The split dome of the observatory reveals a jagged opening where metal ribs expose themselves to the void. Faint blue and green monitor glows spill from broken instrument panels, casting sharp, rectangular pools of light against the encroaching darkness. Dramatic clouds drift overhead, illuminated from below by distant city lights or moonlight, creating a textured ceiling of gray and silver. The dry season leaves the ground dusty and cracked, showing the ruin's isolation. A small red LED blinks rhythmically on a rusted control box, marking the only sign of life in the silent, stone structure.
