Monsoon Observatory Flowers Crack Concrete Floor

Indigo twilight seeps through high windows into a Huambo specimen archive, where red task lights cast narrow cones of warm color across rows of metal shelving. Concrete floor tiles fracture under the force of blooming hibiscus and wild orchids pushing upward through deep fissures. String lights drape loosely between the shelves, illuminating petals that glow against the cool gray of the industrial room. Dust motes hang suspended in the red light beams, caught between the organic chaos of the flowers and the rigid geometry of the archive cabinets. One white orchid rests on a steel tray, its stem bent sharply as it navigates the uneven surface of the cracked floor tiles.
