Giant Flower Above Snow Forest at Night

Honeyed evening light rests on the horizon beneath thin cloud gaps while the constellation Orion dominates the perfectly clear sky. Below, a snow-covered forest stretches toward Commercial Drive in Vancouver, its dark evergreens standing rigid against the winter cold. Rising from the white ground, a single impossible flower towers like a massive tree, its petals glowing with a soft internal luminescence that defies the polar night. The massive bloom creates a frame within the frame, drawing the eye upward from the textured snow to the starry expanse. Dark shadows pool at the base of the giant blossom, at the base of the surreal height in the concrete reality of the forest floor. One petal edge catches the last sunset color, glowing against the deep blue of the night.
