Eastern Box Turtle Crosses Rain Trail in in Grenada

Eastern Box Turtle Crosses Rain Trail

by Clifford Stuart

Soft gray light from a recent rain shower illuminates a muddy forest path where an eastern box turtle moves forward. The turtle's dark, domed shell glistens with water droplets, while surrounding ferns and broad leaves droop under the weight of moisture. Wind whips through the canopy, bending slender saplings and scattering fallen leaves across the wet earth. The ground shows deep ruts and puddles reflecting the overcast sky. The turtle's neck extends cautiously, eyes scanning the shifting environment. One water droplet slides from a fern tip onto the damp soil near the reptile's path.
