Gecko Running Across Rainy Dawn Water Surface
by Iris Fleming
Cold silver light from the pre-dawn sky reflects off a rain-disturbed pond near Pune. A small gecko sprints across the water, its legs creating tiny, rhythmic ripples that fracture the surface. Steady raindrops puncture the pond, sending up minute silver crowns that vanish instantly. The lizard's scales gleam with moisture, shifting from pale ochre to dark brown against the gray water. Surrounding vegetation hangs low and wet, drooping under the weight of the rain. The background blurs into a soft wash of dark greens and grays, suggesting a dense rural landscape under the cool season sky. The gecko's tail trails a faint wake behind it. One raindrop freezes mid-fall near the reptile's hind foot, catching the dim light.
