Dragonfly Perched on Ridge in Autumn Fog

Hard coastal glare illuminates the translucent wings of a dragonfly resting on a dry grass stalk near the edge of a wind-scoured ridge. The insect's segmented body catches the bright afternoon light, against the soft, gray ground fog pooling in the depressions of the prairie below. Early autumn browns and muted greens dominate the foreground vegetation, while the distant horizon fades into a hazy white mist. The dragonfly remains motionless, its legs gripping the brittle stem with patient precision. One dewdrop rests on the tip of the grass, refracting the intense sunlight into a tiny, sharp prism against the blurred background.
