Ladybug on Grass Blade Near Windhoek Ridge

Steel-blue ambient light washes a wind-scoured ridge near Windhoek during the monsoon season. One ladybug rests on a slender blade of grass, its red shell marked with black spots glowing against the pale, dry stalk. The sky above is perfectly clear, offering no clouds to break the uniform twilight tone. The grass bends slightly under the weight of the insect, its surface rough and fibrous with fine dust. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the ground, showing the low angle of the fading sun. The beetle remains motionless, its antennae extended forward in a posture of patient predatory stillness. A tiny droplet of moisture rests on the tip of the grass blade, refracting the last light of the day.
