Seismograph on Vancouver Mossy Ridge

by Stella Avila

Bright midmorning light floods a moss-covered ridge in Vancouver, illuminating a precision seismograph anchored firmly into the earth. Thick, emerald-green moss carpets the uneven ground, its damp texture against the matte black metal casing of the instrument. Low-hanging clouds obscure the sky, casting a diffuse, even glow that eliminates harsh shadows while highlighting the fine grain of the weathered wood surrounding the device. The metallic components gleam with a subtle, cool sheen, reflecting the pale white of the overcast sky. A coiled cable snakes from the base, disappearing into the soft vegetation. at the edge shows a tiny, dried fern frond resting against the stainless steel mounting bracket.
