Hard coastal glare pierces heavy overcast skies above weathered stone ramparts near Carrefour. Three iron cannons rest on the crumbling parapet, their dark barrels angled toward the sea. Moss clings to damp crevices where the turn of seasons leaves the ground wet and grey.
