Derelict Chapel Aisle Winter Fog Light in beneath a broken stone arch near Halifax

Derelict Chapel Aisle Winter Fog Light

by Cheryl Pitts

Copper-toned twilight spills across the broken stone arch of a Halifax chapel ruin, where winter vines hang heavy and bare against the crumbling masonry. Ground fog pools thickly in the low places of the aisle, swallowing the base of the stone pillars. One, weathered wooden bench sits abandoned near the center, its surface rough with frost and time. The light from the horizon wraps the scene, casting long, soft shadows that stretch across the moss-covered floor. Jagged edges of fallen stone contrast with the smooth, damp texture of the remaining archway. A solitary iron lantern rests on the ground, its glass cracked, reflecting the fading orange glow of the sky.
