Decaying Winter Pier Through Marine Fog

by Myles Finch

Hard coastal glare cuts through thick marine fog, illuminating a decaying wooden pier stretching into the gray void. The weathered timber planks show deep gray cracks and splintered edges where sea spray has eroded the surface over years of winter exposure. Low hanging clouds obscure the horizon, leaving only the dark, wet wood and the pale, diffused light of midday. The structure rests on rusted metal pilings that disappear into the misty water. Tiny droplets of sea spray hang suspended in the air, catching the sharp sunlight against the muted tones of the dead winter season. The wooden texture contrasts with the soft, white fog that swallows the distant water line.
